Taber Type Stiffness Testing

The tester is primarily used to determine the bending moment required to deflect the free end of a vertically clamped specimen to a specific angle, typically 7.5 or 15 (to the left and to the right). Principle : It utilizes a bi-directional pendulum-type weighing system. A specimen is clamped to a pendulum, and a pair of rollers pushes the specimen, causing the pendulum to tilt. The instrument then measures the torque (bending moment) applied to the sample. Result : The stiffness is reported in Taber Stiffness Units (g - cm) or millinewton meters (mN - m), and the readings taken in both directions are typically averaged.

The instrument is versatile, with nine distinct ranges to test a wide range of materials, from highly flexible to very rigid.

The tester often conforms to industry standards such as ASTM D5342, ISO 2493, and TAPPI T489.
