Haze Meter Analyzer is a computerized automatic measuring instrument which is designed based on the People's Republic of China national standard GB 2410 - 80 " Transparent Plastic Light Transmittance and Haze Test Methods " and the American Society for Testing and Materials standard ASTM D1003-61 (1997) Standard Test Method for Haze and Luminous Transmittance of Transparent Plastice ".It could applies to all transparent, translucent parallel plane sampler (plastic plates, sheets, plastic film, sheet glass) of light transmittance, transmission haze and reflectivity test also applies to liquid samples (water, beverage, pharmaceutical, colored liquid, grease) turbidity measurements in defense research and production workers and peasants to have a wide range of applications.

This scattered light contributes to the perceived "cloudiness" or "fogginess" of the material, which is quantified as "haze."

How it Works:
  • The fundamental principle of a haze meter relies on an integrating sphere. Here's a simplified explanation:
  • Light Source: A controlled beam of light (often an LED or xenon lamp) is directed at the sample.
  • Sample Placement: The transparent or translucent material (e.g., plastic film, glass, liquid) is placed in the measurement chamber.
  • Integrating Sphere: The light that passes through the sample enters an integrating sphere. This sphere has a highly reflective inner coating that ensures uniform illumination and captures light from all angles.
  • Measurement of Total Transmittance (Tt): Initially, the meter measures the total amount of light that passes through the sample and is collected by the integrating sphere. This represents the total luminous transmittance.
  • Measurement of Scattered Light (Haze): To measure haze, the direct beam of light is typically excluded or the sample is placed in a specific position (e.g., close to the integrating sphere). The detector then measures only the light that has been scattered by the sample, deviating from the original path by a certain angle (typically greater than 2.5 degrees).
  • Calculation: The haze value is calculated as the ratio of the scattered light to the total transmitted light, usually expressed as a percentage. A higher haze value indicates more diffusion and a foggier appearance.
  • Clarity: Some haze meters also measure "clarity," which quantifies the light scattered at very small angles, providing an indication of how clearly fine details can be seen through the material.
