A proving ring is a precision instrument used for measuring and calibrating forces in a variety of mechanical and materials testing applications. It is a fundamental device in the field of metrology (the science of measurement), particularly for force measurement.
A proving ring is essentially an elastic steel ring with a known diameter. Its operation is based on Hooke's Law, which states that within the elastic limit, the deformation of an object is directly proportional to the force applied to it.

Proving rings are primarily used as a calibration standard for other force-measuring devices, such as :
Universal Testing Machines : They are used to verify the force-indicating accuracy of tensile and compression testing machines.
Load Cells : They serve as a standard for calibrating electronic and hydraulic load cells.
Force Gauges : They are used to check the accuracy of various force gauges.
Materials Testing : They are also used directly in various materials tests to measure the load applied to a specimen, such as in tests for soil compaction, shear strength, and the bearing capacity of foundations.
Description
Load Rings , often referred to as proving rings are manufactured from high-strength aluminum alloy with repeatable elastic deformation characteristics and are used to determine force measurements. Loads are measured with an accuracy of ±0.5% using the included mechanical dial indicator with 0.0001in resolution, and a calibration chart to derive force values based on ring deformation is included. Load Rings are available in seven different capacities ranging from 250 to 10,000lbf, and have mounting hole size is 0.50inx20tpi, making them compatible with Gilson and other manufacturers load frames and direct shear units.
